Dinner Party

Day 0 - Tuesday, July 13th
starting at 5:30pm

We'll start our training retreat with a group dinner at one of Long Beach's tastiest local restaurants. We'll get to know each other and discuss the schedule and particulars for the rest of camp. If your travel schedule doesn't allow for you to join us for dinner, that's OK! We'll make sure you get all the info to get started with us on Wednesday morning.

Day 1 - Wednesday, July 14th
starting at 7:30am

Let's start off on the right foot with yoga on the beach! Bring a towel, or a yoga mat (we'll have some to borrow) and greet the morning with sun salutations!
Afterward, we'll wetsuit up for an open water swim at Alamitos Beach (where the Aquathlon and Triathlon will race over the weekend!). The water might be cold, but it will be smooth and safe. Coach Kyla will guide us through some basic open water skills and then we're jumping in feet first for some hands-on experience.
We'll break for snacks and a quick change and sit down to talk about Mental and Practical Race Preparation. This may be your favorite part of the retreat, learning how to have an awesome mindset on race day, and during training. Bring your stories and skills and be ready to learn from others. You'll get copies of the best checklists and planning resources cultivated from Coach Kyla's library of race resources. We'll walk through all the aspects of race planning from the moment you register for a race until the day after you cross the finish line.
You'll have the afternoon free to explore Long Beach! How about paddleboarding? The Aquarium of the Pacific? An easygoing fun bike ride along the beach? Getting pampered at a local spa? A whale watching tour? The choice is yours!
We'll meet at another local restaurant for a group dinner and share stories of our day.

Day 3 - Thursday July 15th
starting at 7:30am

Yoga is so nice, we'll do it twice. Bring a towel, or a yoga mat (we'll have some to borrow) and greet the morning with sun salutations! Afterward, we'll jump into our wetsuits for a quick open water swim at Alamitos Beach (this is optional).
While it's still cool in the morning, we'll lace up our sneakers and enjoy a running clinic, complete with skills and drills, as well as a quick personal video analysis by Coach Kyla. If it's still cool, we'll get in a nice group run and walk along the beach or at the Rainbow Lagoon Park.

We'll break for snacks and a quick change (if needed) and head to the bike shop for a bike maintenance and fix a flat clinic. If you're bringing your own bike, this is a great time to bring it with you.

Day 4 - Friday, July 16th
starting at 7:30am, ending at noon.

How about yoga? And a quick dip in the ocean, if you'd like. Both are optional. But you won't want to miss the Transition Clinic!
We'll meet at the Legacy Triathlon race site at 10:30am for a hands-on, fully interactive transition clinic. Transition is the 4th sport of triathlon and Coach Kyla is going to show us her tips and tricks, as well as share her indispensable checklists and shortcuts that will almost guarantee you smooth transitions and a less-stress race day. Then we'll have a mini-triathlon where we can practice setting up our transition area, and actually do the transitions. When the clinic is over you'll be right at the race site to pickup your packet and rack your bike, if you're registered for any of the weekend's races.
